Have I ever spoken properly?

The basis of concept for this research and project are originally derived from my own interest and experience in the use of space and communication that occurs with a relation in the space — as a Japanese in Europe, a dancer, a choreographer. From the perspective of a non-European, non-native speaker, communication has been a continuous struggle, confrontation and adaptation to find better translation and interpretation for clarity, to express myself in certain circumstances. It is a multi-layered process, accumulating, re-writing, translating, and regurgitating knowledge in the form of sounds, words, slang, gesture, body language and social habits. Have I ever spoken properly? investigates and demonstrates our social acts in the performing-arts format, applied the theory of Proxemics into the spatial design of the performance. The performance represents a journey of introspection that constantly questions the language and communication to meet the fields of psychology and philosophy. The performance contains some participatory sections with the audience, to share the space, time, experience and reflection. Thoughts and feelings stimulate to recall, let think about the questions and seek the answers.
