within arm’s length

An experimental and improvisational performance of within arm’s length is derived from the previous work P.S. which was staged anthropological notion of Proxemics to demonstrate our proximity in the theatre space – stage and auditorium. This time, the concept was applied into the exhibition gallery space where performers can be surrounded by the audience. We have experimented “how close is too close” to get closer to unknown people, especially during the performance, which might be the place and situation when the audience would like to be reserved, in order to watch a performance throughout, without any interruption and interaction with the others.The creation process took a place mostly at the table to discuss a conceptual approach of how we could get physically closer to the audience without any words. This task defined our movement to crystallise that our gestures and body language have to convey the meaning as regular conversation in the interaction. The analysis of the gesture and body language contained the cultural and political gestures, regular basis body language, and international hand signs as references. How close is too close?
